Birmingham Conservation and Heritage Panel (BCHP)

The Birmingham Conservation and Heritage Panel (BCHP) has been operating since 2022. The panel manages the city's heritage, responding to many new planning policies and strategies.

The BCHP includes a range of experienced women and men from the heritage and design sectors who scrutinise the development proposals and plans which will shape the city.

These professionals from Birmingham and beyond meet monthly to assist officers in critiquing projects that will aid heritage-led regeneration, linking conservation initiatives to transport, housing, cultural and wider economic strategies across the city.

Whilst not a decision-making body, BCHP advises the Planning Committee on the challenging decisions for increasingly larger and more complex schemes, ensuring the best deal is struck for historic buildings and the places that form their setting.

It continues to be an exciting time for regeneration in Birmingham. The BCHP proves to be an invaluable resource in providing confidence and certainty to projects that all communities of Birmingham benefit across our shared heritage.

Join the panel

An opportunity has arisen to expand the panel with additional members from across the heritage sector.

The BCHP terms of reference set out the voluntary basis of membership. If you are enthusiastic and passionate about the future of Birmingham and its heritage send your CV to john.killock@birmingham.gov.uk by midnight on Sunday 14 July 2024.
