Out of school setting (OOSS)

Many children attend out of schools setting鈥媠 and activities, such as arts, language, music and sports and religion. They provide valuable learning opportunities and activities that children and young people enjoy. A parent or carer may choose to send their child to one of these settings to support their child’s learning.

A DfE-funded project is now taking place to look at out of school provisions across Birmingham. This is part of a whole systems approach to ensure that all children are appropriately safeguarded and protected from the risk of harm. The project supports 彩霸王论坛's ambition ‘that all children and families in every part of the city achieve their full potential and are supported by a confident workforce with a common core of knowledge and understanding about children’s needs and a consistent approach to practice.’

Schools and childcare provisions are regulated under child protection and childcare legislation and are subject to inspection. These legal powers are not the same for out of school settings.

As part of this project, 彩霸王论坛 are trying to determine the number of out of schools settings in operation and establish the quality of safeguarding practices taking place within these provisions.
